"Bori," a traditional dried snack made primarily from lentil flour, especially in certain parts of South Asia (like Bengal and Odisha in India, and also popular in parts of Pakistan). Here's a breakdown of its ingredients, preparation, and benefits:

Ingredients:

  • Lentil Flour (commonly urad dal, moong dal, or chana dal)
  • Spices (like cumin, asafoetida, or turmeric)
  • Salt
  • Water

Preparation:

  1. Lentils are soaked, ground into a fine paste, and then seasoned with spices.
  2. The paste is shaped into small dumplings (as seen in the image) and sun-dried for several days.
  3. Once dried, they can be stored for months.
  4. These "Bori" pieces are often fried and used in curries, vegetable dishes, or as crispy snacks.

Benefits:

  1. High in Protein: Since Bori is made from lentils, it is a good source of plant-based protein.
  2. Rich in Fiber: Lentils are also high in dietary fiber, which aids digestion.
  3. Long Shelf Life: Bori can be stored for a long time, providing a protein-rich addition to meals whenever needed.
  4. Low in Fat: Before frying, Bori is naturally low in fat, making it a healthy addition to various dishes.
  5. Energy Booster: The combination of lentils and spices makes it a good source of energy.
